Ectropion is the case when the eyelid turns outwards, usually the lower eyelid. Especially when it is on the lower lids, it may also disrupt the tear discharge, causing the tear to be collected in the lower lid and to flow out. This can cause dry lids of patients continuously and irritate the skin of the lids. If it is not treated for a long time, it can become more difficult to correct by gradually correcting the tissues as the entropion starts to harden in the new position. Surgery should be intervened in the early period.

Causes of Ectropion

Ectropion may be related to the looseness of the eyelid supporting tendons and/or muscle, weakness in the muscles that secure the eyelid tissue against the eyeball. Muscle weakness may occur due to the natural aging process, infection, etc. Once the lid tissue that loosens starts to turn outward, it gradually increases with the effect of gravity. As we mentioned above, patients will have to dry the flowing tear since there will also be watering and flowing through tear collecting. In this case, the loose lid that is already loosened will deteriorate as a structure.

What are the Symptoms of Ectropion?

Excessive irrigation, stinging, burning, redness, sensitivity to light and foreign body sensation due to accumulation of tears in the eye.
